Upcoming FCAT Schedule for South Olive Elementary

It’s FCAT Season for Palm Beach County Schools! South Olive Elementary will not be allowing visitors or volunteers on campus for the following dates:

-April 16th-17th for FCAT Reading

(grades 3-5)

-April 21st-22nd for FCAT Math (grades 3-4)

and Science (grade 5).

 

5th grade students will be taking Computer based Math Assessments from April 23rd – May 2nd. Individual class schedules TBA.

This weekend is ‘Breakfast With the Bunny’ at the Palm Beach Zoo. Activities will include a buffet style breakfast, an egg hunt, animal encounters, and a special visit from the Easter Bunny!

Rusty Barge by Summa Beach Finally Removed!

Residents of the Southend who enjoy walking or jogging along Flagler Avenue can rejoice because after 4 months, the massive rusty barge off of the coast of Summa Beach has finally been removed.

The barge was towed away on Wednesday, March 19th, after months of resident’s complaints.

April 5th: ‘Dark Sky Party’ at the South Florida Science Center and Museum

On Saturday, April 5th, from 8-10 PM, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium will be having a ‘Dark Sky Party’. The event will give visitors an opportunity to view astronomical objects through telescopes, learn about the solar system, the night sky, galaxies, and the universe with fun hands-on activities.

On Friday, March 28th, from 6:00-9:00 PM, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium will be hosting a ‘Spring Fling’ night at the museum. The evening will be filled with fun and educational activities to celebrate the spring season.

New Green Market in the Southend: Every other Saturday at the Palm Beach Zoo!

The Palm Beach Zoo will is now hosting a Green Market every other Saturday starting on March 8th and ending on June 28th, 2014. Local produce stands, and sustainably harvested items will be available for purchase near the exit gate from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM every other Saturday. The next one coming up is March 22nd, so make sure not to miss it! South Olive Elementary News: Florida Teacher of the Year Nominee

The teachers and staff of South Olive Elementary have nominated Ms. Kristen DeLuca, the school music teacher, for the Florida Department of Education Macy’s Teacher of the Year award. Results will be out at the end of the school year. Let’s hope it goes to our local nominee Ms. DeLuca!

Thursday March 13th: Science on Tap

Next Thursday, March 13th, at 6 PM The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium will be sponsoring a ‘Science on Tap’ event at  O’Shea’s pub on Clematis Street. Dr. William Bosking, Neuroscientist, will be giving a lecture titled ‘Visual Perception: How Our Brains Create the World We See’. For the price of a cup of coffee, beer or glass of wine, anyone can come and discuss science with a world-class scientist in a casual environment!
