‘Gems Rock!’ Night at the Science Museum

This Saturday: India Fest by the Waterfront

This Saturday February 22nd the Palm Beach India Association will be hosting its 11th annual India Fest at Meyer Amphitheater in downtown West Palm Beach. This festival will be open 11 AM – 9 PM and is free to the public. A very popular event, over 14,000 people are expected to attend the one day festival. Valentine’s Day on the Waterfront: Free Screening of Titanic at 7:30 PM

The city of West Palm Beach will be showing the movie Titanic on the big screen by the waterfront on Friday February 14th, Valentine’s Day. The movie will begin at 7:30 and end around 11 PM. Check Out the Titanic Exhibit at South Florida Science Center and Museum!

The South Florida Science Center and Museum will be featuring ‘Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition’ until April 20th, 2014. The exhibit contains artifacts from the tragic sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Upon arrival, visitors are given a ‘boarding pass’ with the name of a real passenger and what class they were in.

Don’t Forget to Wear Pink February 26th – National Anti-Bullying Day

February 26th is National ‘Pink Shirt Day’ to raise awareness about bullying. Palm Beach County will be filled with pink shirts all day to announce that we will no longer stand for bullying in our schools and that there are ways we can prevent it.

After-school programs at the South Olive Community Center will be anti-bullying themed to provide education and coping techniques for children. Make sure you wear a pink shirt to show your support for this cause and make a stand against bullying. Continue reading

Youth Fitness Training at Phipps Park Baseball!

Phipps Park Baseball is offering a fitness training event for all players aged 9-15 who are registered to play this spring. The event will be on Tuesday February 11th, from 6:00-7:15 at Field #3.

Players will be trained on warm-up systems for athletes and will participate in fitness drills for strength, cardio, power, and stretching. This will be a free event for all players registered in their youth baseball program. Come and give your child a head-start for the upcoming baseball season!

Phipps Skate Park is Hosting a Valentine’s Day Lock-in!

Looking to have a night off from the kids? Phipps Skate Park is hosting a lock in from 9 PM – 9 AM on Valentine’s day, Friday February 14th.

Kids ages 9-17 are welcome to come to the park for a night of fun and skating. The event will provide participants the opportunity to win free skate products with games, contests, and giveaways! The kids can skate until midnight and then continue having fun for the rest of the night.

The cost is $35 and parents can call Phipps Skate Park at (561) 835-7170 to register their kids for the event.

Upcoming Tournament at the South Olive Tennis Center

On March 8-10th the South Olive Tennis Center will be hosting its 13th Annual Jeffrey McIntosh Memorial Super Series. The event was created to honor the life of 8 year old Jeffrey McIntosh who tragically died during his parent’s murder-suicide seventeen years ago. It is a USTA  Sanctioned Junior Event for Boys/Girls 16s and 18s.

The Center also runs multiple USTA sanctioned tennis tournaments throughout they year. Their most notable event being the David Strage Memorial Super Series, which has raised over $43,000 for brain tumor patients and cancer research. The Center also offers residents the opportunity to join a tennis league or enroll in tennis classes, for both adults and children. The Palm Beach County Women’s Tennis Association also offers several teams to join that practice at the South Olive Tennis Center.

 

 

Greek Fest at St. Catherine’s Church

The 39th Annual Greek Fest at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church will be taking place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday February 21-23. This is an event you simply cannot miss!

Entertainment will be provided by the Heart of Greece Dancers and the Hellenic Band. There will be authentic Greek cuisine, a pastry shop, imported jewelry and artwork, boutiques, arts and crafts, a taverna, and imported groceries. Come for the gryos, lamb, souvlaki, assorted pastries, Greek coffee, pastizio, spanakopita, and saganaki. The food is always spectacular and the atmosphere is really lively! Continue reading
