Looking for a family-friendly (and eco-friendly) activity this weekend? Check out the e4 Life Green Health & Wellness Expo at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium this Saturday, July 23 from 10A-4P.

It’s an opportunity for the community to learn more about healthy living, sustainable initiatives and environmental conservation.

In partnership with the West Palm Beach Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, the Expo features fun and educational activities for the entire family – all promoting a healthy lifestyle though vendor exhibits, demonstrations, give-a-ways, tastings and much more.

Activities include healthy food preparation demonstrations, gardening workshops, information about carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, transportation, environmentally preferable purchasing and other sustainable/conservation subjects. Representatives from the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society will be there to discuss their on-site conservation programs.

RGF Environmental will also be on-site at the e4 Life Expo with the “LamborGreenie”. Don’t miss your chance to take a picture with this extremely rare, eco-friendly electric car that’s based on the famous Lamborghini Diablo.

Movie Night & Meditation

awake

Join the Yoga Path staff for the studio’s first ever movie night next Saturday, July 23 from 6:00-8:00. They will be showing AWAKE- The Life of Yogananda with snacks and drinks provided.

AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda is an unconventional biography about the Hindu Swami who brought yoga and meditation to the West in the 1920s. Paramahansa Yogananda authored the spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi,” which has sold millions of copies worldwide and is a go-to book for seekers, philosophers and yoga enthusiasts today. (Apparently, it was the only book that Steve Jobs had on his iPad.) By personalizing his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today.

Tee Up A Design For Your Dream Golf Course In The South End

WPB Golf Course

This Thursday’s SENA meeting will address one big topic: What would South End Residents and those who utilize the golf course like the city to put into a request for proposal for the possible development of the golf course.

A request for proposal (RFP) is a type of bidding solicitation in which the City announces that funding is available for a particular project or program, and companies can place bids for the project’s completion. Think of this as an opportunity to create a “wish list” of ideas that the City can use as a benchmark to help them draft the RFP. This can include things like: where should the entrance be, what size clubhouse, what amenities at the clubhouse, etc.

Need inspiration to get your started? Check out a drone video of the course here.

The meeting will be

Thursday July 7th,
6:30 pm
The South Olive Recreation Center (345 Summa Street)

Fab Find: Vintage Gucci Stirrup Cups

Stirrup Cups

We are so crushing on these Gucci Stirrup Cups at Palm Beach Antiques and Design Center. With gorgeously detailed horse, hare, fox and dog toppers made out of brass, they would be the perfect accent to a stylish bar area or curio cabinet.

Not savvy in stirrup cups? Here’s a little history lesson:

Stirrup cups were most popular during the 18th and 19th century. The specialized beverage vessel was often presented to a rider on horseback, while their feet were in the stirrups, as they were departing or arriving home from a hunt. Riders were required to down the contents (typically a wine or spirit-based punch, watered down and spiced to taste) fairly quickly which is why the cups typically had no base. This also necessitated servants to be on hand to deliver the cup to the drinker.

While less expensive versions were available in ceramic, the most elegant and elaborate were made out of silver. These statement-making Gucci cups (available for $1,600 for the set) were produced in the 1970s and individually signed.

Bring this dapper quartet home and dress up your next happy hour. They are sure to generate some lively cocktail party conversation.

Run and Fun In the Southend This Saturday

It’s a Saturday filled with activity and adventure in the Southend this weekend.

Pound your protein smoothie and throw on your running shoes for the Stacey Konwiser Memorial Save the Tiger 5K  at the Palm Beach Zoo. This year’s race is all the more special as it pays tribute to the life of the Zoo’s beloved Lead Keeper and her love of all cats…especially tigers.

race

In honor of Stacey, Team AC-27, named after her radio call sign and comprised of several zookeepers and other staff, will also be running and walking in the race. Team AC-27’s ‘virtual team’ is now comprised of 120 people across 17 states! There will also be a ‘Remembrance Table’ in the fountain area where attendees can leave notes of encouragement for Stacey and her loved ones.

You’ll run or walk through the beautiful paths of Dreher Park and finish the race inside the Palm Beach Zoo passing the Tiger River habitat where 2 of the Zoo’s 4 Malayan tigers reside. You’ll also run past wallabies, Fennec foxes, New Guinea singing dogs, ocelots, and siamang gibbons on your way to the finish line at the fountain plaza.

Your registration includes admission to the Zoo for the day and discount coupons for friends and family to see you finish and explore the Zoo for the day. And, for the first time ever, every runner/walker registered will receive a shirt. (Note: The first 650 registered will be able to pick up their shirt at a packet pickup location or at race day check-in. Everyone from #651 on will get their shirt after race day.)

The Malayan tiger is the most endangered of the 5 remaining species of tigers. It’s estimated that there are fewer than 250 in the wild. The Palm Beach Zoo works closely with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), supporting species and habitat research and protection at Endau-Rompin National Park in Malaysia. A portion of each participant’s race registration fee helps fund the Zoo’s involvement with WCS.

Awards will be given in the following categories:
Top 3 Overall Male & Female
Top 3 Masters Male & Female
Top 3 Male ages 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+
